My first proper job as a computer programmer was for Format Tripos Ltd. who produced software for animal feed manufacturers. I worked there from 1986 to 1988.
I was initially taken on for a two-week contract to produce a user interface for a new Milk Quota tracking system. After having completed the program, including bells and whistles, within one week, I was taken on permanently.
I worked in a small team on the maintenance and development of the company's least cost animal feed formulation system, and animal feed bag label printing software all written in Microsoft Basic. I was also involved in helping to complete/debug a stock control system written in MSM Mumps.
I left Format to work at Polymer Laboratories Ltd..
