Abbeyfield

This dance was written when I heard Simon Hopper playing a tune during a haitus in one of Sergeant Musgraves Dance's practice nights. The dance is named after the tune which is from The Peeping Tom songbook.

To me the tune suggested some 'fancy polka steps'. At this time I had also been sorting through some old notes of ideas that I had come up with for new dances. This dance is the result of combining the fancy stepping with some figures that I had come up with for an unfinished dance some years previously. I did feel that the figures might be a little too simple, and so I did make some changes to make the dance more interesting. This involved adding a 'pause' where the dancers stand still for a couple of beats. This certainly means the dance is much more interesting, but also makes it more challenging to learn.
